The ‘turning point’ of Zalmi vs Sultans match is Asif’s catch and Mehran’s bowling

Peshawar Zalmi defeated Multan Sultans for the second time in this PSL thanks to the aggressive batting of Babar Azam and Saeem Ayub and then the brilliant bowling of young bowler Mehran Mumtaz in the powerplay.

Multan Sultans have lost only to Peshawar Zalmi in PSL Nine so far. But this loss will not affect them as they have already qualified for the play-off stage.

After the aggressive batting of Babar Azam and Saeem Ayub by Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans came very close to victory thanks to the partnership of Iftikhar Ahmed and Chris Jordan in chasing the target of 205 runs but might not succeed.

Iftikhar Ahmed scored his half-century off 24 balls. His innings of 60 runs included five sixes and four fours. Chris Jordan also played well with him and scored 30 runs off 12 balls which included two sixes and three fours.

They both scored 75 runs off 30 balls in the sixth wicket partnership.

The main reason for Multan Sultans not achieving the target was the catch of youngster Mehran Mumtaz and Asif Ali who were playing their first match by David Mullan.

Mehran Mumtaz bowled on a difficult occasion like the Powerplay, conceding only 20 runs in his four overs and taking the crucial wicket of Reza Hendricks.

Due to their bowling, Multan Sultans batsmen found it difficult to score runs.

On behalf of Peshawar Zalmi, Aamir Jamal took two wickets and also ran out Mohammad Rizwan. Apart from them, Mehran Mumtaz and Naveen-ul-Haq took one wicket each.

Thus, Multan Sultans lost this match by only four runs in the last over.

Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi, who showed a disappointing performance once morest Islamabad United on Monday, won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 71 runs without losing any wicket in the powerplay only.

On behalf of Peshawar Zalmi, captain Babar Azam scored 64 runs while Saeem Ayub played an innings of 46 runs. These two batsmen hit seven sixes and 10 fours together. Babar Azam was declared the best player of the match.

However, as soon as he got out, the wickets of Peshawar Zalmi started falling quickly.

On behalf of Multan Sultans, Osama Mir took three wickets and Chris Jordan took two wickets.

On the points table, Peshawar Zalmi has once once more come to the third place with nine points, while Multan Sultans are still at the first place and Quetta Gladiators are at the second place.

Islamabad United is fourth while Karachi Kings is fifth and Lahore Qalandars are at the bottom.
