King’s Day 2025 | Municipality of Doetinchem

Why is King’s Day taking place in Doetinchem in 2025?

The municipality of Doetinchem has officially invited the King and his family to join us in celebrating King’s Day. We are honored, super proud and happy that the King has accepted our invitation.

Why did Doetinchem invite the King and his family to celebrate King’s Day in Doetinchem?

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Royal Family attending the celebration of Queen’s Day in the province of Gelderland (Apeldoorn 2009). The King has never celebrated King’s Day in the province of Gelderland before. Doetinchem is the heart of one of the most beautiful regions of Gelderland; the Achterhoek. Over 20% of all Gelderlanders live in our region!

We see this as a great opportunity to show the King, his family and the rest of the Netherlands how lively and hospitable Doetinchem and the Achterhoek region are.

What role do the region and the province play in the celebration of King’s Day in Doetinchem?

The Province of Gelderland has wholeheartedly supported the invitation to the King of the municipality of Doetinchem. It is good practice for the King to celebrate King’s Day in a city with a regional function. Doetinchem has this regional function within the Achterhoek and that is one of the reasons why King’s Day will be celebrated in Doetinchem in 2025. Mayor Mark Boumans is mayor of Doetinchem and chairman of the Achterhoek region, consisting of eight municipalities.

After the summer holidays, we will start working on the program for King’s Day 2025 and it will become clear what role the region and the province will play in the celebration on Saturday, April 26.
