The Democratic lobby is growing to ask Joe Biden to step back from the November presidential election. And doubts regarding his health are growing. The latest to question his sanity is Democratic Congressman Seth Moulton, who represents a Massachusetts district. He is a longtime friend of Biden, but the president reportedly failed to recognize him at the event in Normandy to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Moulton, who is among 35 Democrats who have called on Biden to step down, said he has considered the president a “mentor and friend” since 2014. “Whenever we passed each other and I made eye contact with him, he would step aside and smile and say how happy he was to see me. He was like that last Christmas at the White House ball,” he wrote in a column in the Boston Globe. “More recently, I saw him in a small group in Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. For the first time, he didn’t seem to recognize me,” he added. At that moment, he says, he had the “shocking realization” that he was “no longer sure” that Biden might win the presidential race once morest Donald Trump. “The president should withdraw from the race,” he added.
Will he? Probably, but not right away. Biden does not want to give Benjamin Netanyahu the satisfaction of withdrawing from the presidential race and so he is waiting for the visit of the Israeli prime minister, next week, before deciding whether to withdraw his candidacy. This is according to advisers to the US president quoted by the New York Times, according to whom Biden has been convinced to give way, but first he would wait for the visit of Netanyahu, with whom relations are tense due to the war in Gaza.
