The Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association expressed its concern that for another August, many medicines will be missing from the shelves of pharmacies.
Pharmaceutical companies, which close every August for regarding 20 days due to summer vacations, are causing a reduction in prescription drugs that were already in short supply, according to the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association (PAA).
“The problem is localized in the companies whose medicines are already in short supply, since as we all know the quantities available from the pharmaceutical companies to the pharmacies and pharmacies are constantly decreasing, not covering the monthly requirements arising from the prescription of these medicines. So you realize that with the summer closure of these companies and based on the experience of previous years, in the first ten days of August, the pharmacies will not have sufficient quantities to distribute and the pharmacies will be unable to serve the medication needs of Greek Patients”.
In their open letter to all companies, the Pharmacists emphasize the necessity to remain open for the departments that supply pharmaceutical warehouses with drugs, in order to “achieve the orderly operation of the pharmacies as much as possible and to ensure uninterrupted continuity of patient treatment”.
“In the fight that we are all fighting to ensure the continuation of the treatment of the patients, you should also contribute by ensuring the supply of the quantities of drugs that are necessary for the month of August”, notes the PFS and adds that the solutions which some pharmaceutical companies propose to keep an emergency department open, does not solve the problem in any way, because it concerns the coverage of individual incidents and not the smooth and extensive supply of drug stores and pharmacies.
“All the links of the supply chain should realize that we have to fight once morest the European problem of shortages and therefore as the majority of pharmacies remain open in August, providing high quality primary health services for the Greek patient, it is respectively mandated to keep the supply departments open by the CPAs, for the orderly operation of pharmacies and pharmacies and the uninterrupted service of the Greek patient”, conclude the pharmacists in their letter.
