There were speculations in the media regarding the Faiz Ghar established in Lahore for the last 14 years that it has been closed due to the economic conditions of the country.
However, Adeel Hashmi, grandson of famous poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz and secretary of Faiz Foundation, has clarified that he has not closed Faiz Ghar but postponed it.
“We did not take this decision happily, nor with a stone in our heart, you think there is an interesting cricket match going on and there is a tea or food break.
‘Neither that match is over, nor cricket has disappeared from the world. There is only a little gap in between and I am sure that this gap will be very short.’
According to Adeel, Faiz Ghar in Model Town was vacated regarding a month ago.
“We’re delaying the project until the economy stabilizes, but we know something will happen and we’ll start it once more in a better place.”
He said that in the meantime we have done a lot of work on the ‘Faiz Ghar Be Beyond Borders’ online platform where the work of Faiz Ahmed Faiz will be available.

According to Adeel, there are two reasons for this break: ‘One is the tradition in this country that it is very easy to stop good things. However, the real reason was that every year we had a problem of funds, but we used to make up for it from somewhere.
‘Our focus was the common people who belonged to the middle or lower middle class. We used to work with the common people, but in the last one year, the economic conditions of this country have made it very difficult for this class to meet their living needs.
He said that in the economic crisis, the activities related to the arts are considered extra, so people stop these activities.
The means of transporting children for these activities have become expensive, the fees are also heavy, that is the reason why the number of people coming to Faiz Ghar has been decreasing for the past one year. ‘
He said that since he does not have any big organization, he takes corporate funding and not foreign funding. ‘We have many colleagues who support the Faiz Foundation.’

He said that once Faiz comes to the house, the relationship is established. ‘When there is a little pause in this relationship, it is sad and people are afraid that they might not get another chance. We are telling people not to worry, as long as we are alive we will continue to make some effort.’
Adeel said that an interesting thing happened in the last couple of days that some people offered us their cooperation and their places to open Faiz Ghar there.
‘One or two of these offers are very good. We will meet these people in the coming days and finalize things and make a formal announcement when we reopen Faiz Ghar.’
What is Faiz Foundation?
Adeel Hashmi said that Faiz Foundation is a trust created in the name of Faiz. This foundation is an umbrella one project was Faiz Ghar and another project was Faiz Festival, under another project we work in the development sector.
According to Adeel, in 2008 and 2009, the family of Faiz Ahmed Faiz thought that we have a lot of his photos, memorabilia, medals, his handwritten notes, letters and more, so display them somewhere. Should be so that people can see.

“We have taken a place in Model Town Lahore and built a mini museum. It can’t just be a museum, it has to be a place that breathes love.’
According to Adeel: ‘The house of Faiz had two parts. One for adults and one for children. For adults, we used to do literature sessions, lectures, book launches, open mics, classical singing classes for budding singers, yoga too. All this happened every day. For all this there used to be a very reasonable remuneration which we paid to the instructor.’
Adeel continued: ‘It was all the same for the kids but they also did painting, kung fu, pottery, clay making, robotics and of course creative writing. , also used to learn storytelling and dancing.’
He said that the postponement of Faiz Ghar will not affect the Faiz Festival. “As long as our family and Faiz Sahib’s fans are breathing, the heart is beating, the pulse is moving, then the Faiz Festival will continue.”
According to Adeel, the government has said that we should expand the scope of Faiz Festival and bring it to Islamabad. “We will soon organize Faiz Festival in Islamabad in collaboration with the government.”
He said that apart from this, discussions have also been held with Indian literary platform Rekhta Foundation and now Rekhta and Faiz Foundation will hold a big Indo-Pakistan festival in Dubai later this year or early next year. will
