The Cantonese Grand Prix, in La Coruña, Spain, has become the best stage so far for Jose Alejandro Barrondosince in that competition it has achieved its two qualifications for the Olympic Games —Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024—.
Born in Chiyuc, San Cristóbal, Alta Verapaz, “el Canche”, as he is affectionately called, has forged a career based on much sacrifice, perseverance and honor, to become, today, the greatest exponent of the march.
Gone is the dreamy child, the one who made a living shining shoes or selling newspapers, because in his soul there were many dreams to pursue.
Years later, José is experiencing a transcendental moment in his sporting career. He is on the verge of competing in his second Olympic Games and following the experience lived in Tokyo 2020 and Parisis his focus of attention, where he will seek to successfully close the sporting cycle.
“Qualifying for my second Olympic Games has been a huge blessing. It is the reward for all the work we have been doing with my coach, Julio Urías, and the support of my family. I am very excited regarding this new opportunity. For me, it is always a pride to represent Guatemala”said Barrondo, who was the first Guatemalan to qualify for these sporting events.
A rematch
Paris will be a new opportunity to stand out and vindicate himself following the expulsion he suffered in the Tokyo Games in the first eight kilometers.
“That occasion was a very hard and bitter moment, but we took it in the best way and learned a lot. Of what not to do and all this time we have come to perfect it. I have the challenge of doing a good competition and I promise to leave everything in every kilometer, I know that there will be very strong rivals, but, just like them, I also have the same ability to put on a good competition. I dream big and I hope to finish among the first places.”he claimed.
José Alejandro has been in camp since June 17 in Sierra Nevada, Spain, and is scheduled to arrive in Paris on July 24. at night, where he will complete his preparation phase seven days before his competition.
