Despite the first hat-trick of PSL 9, Quetta lost

The first team to score a hat-trick in Pakistan Super League (PSL) Nine Quetta Gladiators Peshawar lost to Zalmi on Friday.

Akil Hussain of Quetta scored a hat-trick in the match played in Rawal Pindi but despite this his team lost by 76 runs.

Chasing 197 runs, Quetta might score only 120 runs and the entire team returned to the pavilion 13 balls before.

Quetta’s openers Jason Roy (16 runs) and Saud Shakeel (24 runs) failed to give the team a big start.

Rayle Russo scored eight runs, Khawaja Nafi scored five runs and Umeer Yusuf scored 10 runs. Peshawar Zalmi’s Saeem Ayub, Meeran Mumtaz, Khurram Shahzad and Lovewood dismissed two players each.

Batting first in 20 overs Zalmi scored 196 runs for the loss of eight wickets, with the biggest innings coming from captain Babar Azam, who scored 53 runs off 30 balls. He got out on Akhil’s ball.

Saim opened the innings with Babar at a blistering pace. He scored 30 runs off 12 balls with the help of three sixes.

Mohammad Haris (20 runs) was run out on a throw from Rayle Russo. Tom Koehler scored 33 runs and Roman Poel scored 28 runs.

Akil capped Zalmi’s blistering innings with his first hat-trick of PSL 9.

He dismissed Aamir Jamal, Mehran Mumtaz and Wood on the second, third and fourth balls of his fourth over.

He dismissed four bowlers for 23 runs, including the wicket of Babar Azam.
