THE Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, regretted the incident of unilateral dismissal of several honorary teachers in DKI Jakarta through the ‘cleansing’ system. She also encouraged the Government to hold an audience to find the best solution to this matter.

“I deeply regret the termination of employment of hundreds of honorary teachers in DKI. We hope there will be intensive coordination from the Government to provide a fair explanation and solution to the problem,” said Puan, Thursday (18/7).

Puan assessed that honorary teachers are educational staff who have the same privileges as civil servant teachers as unsung heroes, so their welfare needs to be considered.

“And there are honorary teachers because of our lack of teaching staff, so their role is also big,” said Bung Karno’s grandson.

Based on information from the DKI Education Office, the ‘cleansing’ of at least 107 honorary teachers was carried out as a Follow-up to the BPK Audit Results (TLHP). This is because the school appointed honorary teachers without recommendations from the Education Office.

The honorary teachers are paid from the School Operational Assistance (BOS) fund. The DKI Education Office also said that the BPK’s findings found that the map of honorary teacher needs did not comply with the Permendikbud and the provisions as honorarium recipients.

“Don’t let this sudden layoff cause schools to end up lacking teaching staff, which will ultimately have an impact on our children.”

Regarding this matter, Puan asked the government, schools, and honorary teachers to sit together to find the best way.

“There must be a clarification on this issue. Including the reason why the school decided to appoint these honorary teachers? Is it because they are overloaded and need additional teaching staff,” explained the PDI-P Faction Politician.

According to the first woman to serve as Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the central government can be a facilitator for justice for all. Because, said Puan, this concerns the fate of more than 100 honorary teachers who have contributed to children’s education.

“I hope that there will soon be a fair meeting point and discussions can be conducted democratically so that all parties can understand their respective positions and roles,” said the former Coordinating Minister for PMK.

“Don’t let this sudden layoff cause schools to end up lacking teachers, which will ultimately impact our children,” Puan continued. (Z-6)
