Monday is good for jazz: a magical evening in the open air | Culture

Its organizer Živilė Jankutė-Pivoriūnė says that jazz sounds less often in the capital in the summer, and “Jazz in the Forest” is taking place for the second year, ambitiously intending to become an annual tradition, when very different jazz performances come together for one magical evening under the open sky.

“It is special that more than one foreigner will come to this event to perform especially for the Vilnius audience,” says Živilė.

The audience will be welcomed by the group of Lithuanian and Danish musicians “Two Face Tide”, this will be only their fourth performance in Lithuania. The group was born from the friendship of Martyn Šerpytis and Bertram Kvist Lynggaard while studying at the Danish National Conservatory of Music. Both musicians play saxophones and have the goal of combining different cultural contexts, experimenting and realizing their creative visions through original compositions. The result is a hybrid, borderless music that spans genres such as hardbop, modern jazz, avant-garde and folk music.

The second to take the stage will be the group “MozX”, where they will spread musical dialogues with saxophone, sousaphone and drums: Dovydas Stalmokas, Lukas Pivoriūnas and Dalius Naujokaitis-Naujo. The show will be special because percussionist Kenny Wollesen from New York is coming to Lithuania to join this show!

K. Wollesen, who has been working on the New York jazz scene for more than two decades, is called “everywhere” by his associates. He played with artists of various genres – from Tom Waits to J. Zorn, from David Byrne to Bebel Gilbert, recorded on hundreds of recordings.

Dalius Naujokaitis has been living in New York for almost 30 years, is a well-known drummer and performance artist, he and Kenny are close friends and stage colleagues, so it will definitely be possible to communicate in improvisational musical language. Listeners are definitely in for a sonic adventure!

The end of the evening will be announced by the popular group “Shower”, who will play not only the works loved by fans, but also a number of new ones. Music lovers remember the group from young band competitions, where they confidently dived into the styles of hip-hop, funk, jazz and alternative rock and not only captivated the listeners, but also took first place.

After successfully participating in the Eurovision selection in the winter, “showers” were discovered by a wider audience. Currently, the group is preparing to release a new studio album, the tracks of which will be shared at “Dziaze miške” in the heart of Užupis.
