US officials have claimed that intelligence sources tipped them off that Iran may be plotting to assassinate former US President Donald Trump. American broadcaster CNN said that this report was received several weeks ago following which Trump’s security was increased.
The Secret Service has increased security since the attack on Trump three days ago in Butler, Pennsylvania.
CNN has also reported that no link has been found so far between Trump’s attacker, Thomas Matthew Crooks, and the Iranian conspiracy. Recall that Thomas Matthew Crooks was killed in a return fire by US Secret Service agents.
Iran has rejected the claim of US officials as hollow and dirty. A spokesman for Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations told CNN that in the eyes of Iran, Trump is a criminal who should be prosecuted because he ordered the killing of General Soleimani. Iran has chosen the path of law for justice in this matter.
The Secret Service is facing intense criticism regarding the assassination attempt on Trump. Objections are being raised as to how a young man in a Secret Service surveillance area climbed onto a nearby roof and got into a position to attack.
