Monagas will take 16 weightlifters to the 2024 Youth Games

With the aim of winning as many medals as possible for the state of Monagas, the weightlifting discipline managed to qualify a total of 16 athletes for the 21st edition of the National Youth Sports Games (JDNJ 2024), to be held between October 15 and November 15 of this year.

Fabián Márquez, who has already successfully represented Venezuela in various international competitions, heads the delegation that trains day and night under the direction of coaches Robson Pérez and Carlos Padrón, in the recently inaugurated Weightlifting Gym in the Maturin Sports Centre.

“We thank President Nicolás Maduro and Governor Ernesto Luna for all the support they have been giving to sport, and more specifically in Monagas”said Márquez, 20 years old, who is looking for a place in the 2028 Olympic cycle in Los Angeles, United States.

While, for the women, Luismar Millán (40kg), Williandrys Caldera (45kg), Estrella Monrroy (49kg), Roxines Polanco (55kg), Marialquis Arrioja (59kg), Jouliángel Trujillo (64kg) and Dainemar Marín (71kg) will be competing.

“We feel committed to bringing victories to the entity”Arrioja highlighted.

In addition to weightlifting, Monagas has more than 170 athletes qualified for the JDNJ 2024, including disciplines such as athletics, cycling, chess, Basque pelota, ratquetball, swimming, women’s field football, wrestling, kickboxing, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, kenpo, wushu, karate do and fencing.
