[Yahoo News Report]Eric Tsang, who was shot in Tsuen Wan during the anti-extradition bill movement in 2019, was sentenced to 47 months in prison last year following admitting to rioting and obstructing justice. “Wireless News” aired an exclusive interview with Eric Tsang in prison today (19th). It reported that he, who has a Form 5 education, applied for the Diploma Examination (DSE) in Chinese, English and Mathematics, and ultimately obtained a score of “434”. However, he is not satisfied with this result and said that he will apply for the DSE once more next year and take the economics and civics subjects. The goal is to “score enough” to apply for courses in post-secondary institutions and hope to work as a social worker in Hong Kong in the future.
This is not the first time that Tsang has accepted an “exclusive interview” in prison. In December last year, TVB’s national security law program “Securing the Country with Law”, which was co-produced by the police, aired an interview with Tsang. He said in the program that he had learned to manage his emotions as a result of participating in the Correctional Services Department’s program, and called on viewers to avoid being incited and instigated.
Said it was difficult to prepare for exams in prison

He might only study for regarding 6 hours a day in his spare time, from 5 pm to 11 pm. Zeng Zhijian said that his family had always wanted him to study hard, but he had not listened carefully to what they said before, so he wanted to take advantage of his imprisonment to resume his studies to give his family peace of mind. He also pointed out that he actually wanted to “test the temperature of the water” in taking the three subjects of the DSE this time and “see if he has the heart to read back and whether he has the ability.” He also pointed out that the prison environment is noisy, making it difficult to concentrate and easily distracted. “There are many things that I cannot overcome or control, and there are also many things that I feel unsatisfactory regarding, but I can still choose to continue to face them, so I I will always remind myself to focus.”
Eric Tsang revealed that he will compete in DSE once more next year, hoping to obtain satisfactory results and enter a tertiary institution to work as a social worker in the future. Regarding the recent revision of the Social Worker Registration Regulations, which stipulates that those who commit crimes endangering national security will be permanently delisted. He believes that the nature of the case does not violate the National Security Law, so he may not be unable to work as a social worker. He said, “Even though I may not be able to register as a registered social worker, I can still find other ways to continue working in the social welfare sector. Helping others and helping myself is not limited to the job of social worker.”
