“In the photo there is a smile, a lot of lights, enough shine and one can think “oh what a beautiful life in the care”… and yet… Those days were among the worst of my year. My psychological state was going through a major crisis, with tensions in my personal life with people I love, repeated trials and a lot of crying with my friends at home regarding issues I mightn’t share.
With anger suppressed inside me, with disappointment for people, with sadness for the downfall we are led for hours and hours, with sadness for unfair things, in shock for the prevailing lie, and in general so many things overwhelmed my mind.. but a smile always on the lips because I HAD TO.
You know what I realized? That this fake smile that we sometimes have to wear, eventually ends up in a real one because you essentially learn to hold back and tame the spontaneity you create in your difficult inner self. You learn to see what is worth your energy and what is completely useless. You learn to keep the right distance from things, you learn to stay calm and maintain self-control.
You follow logic and wait stoically hoping to be vindicated for your maturity. So, behind this photo, there is a herpes, quite a few tears, insomnia and people holding my hand to follow the “must smile” that was needed. So an image does not always represent the truth.
Just because someone doesn’t share their blacks doesn’t mean they don’t live them. It means he chooses to manage them privately and differently. Don’t give up P O T E. When you feel like everything is going wrong or when everything really is going wrong have faith in yourself in your soul and in those around you. The hard times will pass and following months you will remember them and wonder.
P.S.: 5 minutes following this shoot ended – I was still on the set – I got a call and they told me that I had to go to Gennimatas hospital because something had happened to Christos without even knowing what. Little did I know what awaited me. That’s how I learned once once more what REALLY has meaning and substance” confesses Danai Barka.
