Deputies go to the PDH so that the Mingob can restore their security and say that they “fear” for their lives
The PDH announced that it received a complaint from three of the 17 members of Congress who had their security detail removed, so that it might be reinstated.

He Human Rights Ombudsman (PDH), Alejandro Córdova, reported that he received the complaint from three of the 17 deputies of the Congress of the Republic to which The Ministry of the Interior decided to remove their security devicefor not having a technical justification for possessing it.
“They –the deputies– have requested that their data be updated security measures. (…) People who feel that their physical integrity may be harmed can request security measures that the State itself may provide,” Córdova said.
“They say they fear for their physical safety because of the position they hold. They fear that they will be attacked, and that is why they are asking the State of Guatemala to provide them with the security that they have through a constitutional right,” he added. PDH.
Córdova gave statements to the press this Thursday, July 18, upon leaving a meeting with deputies in it Congress of the republic.
On the measure of the Government
On July 16, the Government of Guatemala reported that the Ministry of the Interior ended with a review process of deputies that have state security through the Civil national police (PNC).
According to the Ministry of the Interior, as a result of the first review, the authorities decided to withdraw the security arrangements of 17 congressmen who had been benefited by the previous administration.
The government says that protection was obtained “verbally, without justification and without any risk analysis.”
The security detail, made up of 61 police officers, will be withdrawn “in less than 48 hours” to be available for other needs, it was stated.
The Government added that “the National Civil Police exists to serve everyone, not to privilege a few.”
