The inspector’s office announced on its website that the investigation will be carried out to “evaluate the United States Secret Service’s process for secure the campaign event of former President Trump of July 13, 2024.”
This authority is responsible for independently supervise to the DHS, which includes the Secret Service.
Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt during a rally on Saturday, July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The attacker was identified as Thomas Matthew Crooksa 20-year-old American man living in Pennsylvania, who fired from the roof of a building near the security perimeter, following several witnesses saw him and alerted the authorities of his suspicious presence.
The roof belonged to a warehouse located regarding 150 yards from where Trump was standing, but was outside the event’s security perimeter.
The Secret Service has stated that the security of that building was responsibility of local authoritiesalthough the county attorney maintains the opposite and has denied that version.
This handling has called into question the work of the Secret Service and its director, Kimberly Cheatle.
The DHS inspector general’s investigation is one of several the Biden administration has announced into the incident, including an independent one.
