As every year, for twelve (12) years, the Ministry of Health, through the General Directorate for AIDS Prevention (DGPS) organizes an awareness campaign on HIV – AIDS called “Holidays without AIDS” in Greater Libreville. This campaign which started this Thursday in the district called “Les Charbonnages” in the 1is district of Libreville, will take place until August 8, 2024.
This campaign, which concerns all citizens regardless of origin or age, concerns both awareness-raising and free, anonymous and non-mandatory screening. The results are given instantly on the very site of the caravan that has pitched its tents on the esplanade of the CECADO supermarket in the coal mines.
“We do prevention and screening so that people know their status and behave responsibly. There are also psychologists on site for any support that may be needed.” said Elizabeth Ngoua Mbina, an agent of the general directorate for AIDS prevention and head of the said caravan.
After “The Coal Mines”the caravan will set foot in Nzeng-Ayong, Rio, Akanda, Owendo, Ntoum and Kango, for 24 hours on each site, before deploying inland. It is organized in collaboration with the National AIDS Control Program (PNLS) and some partner NGOs in the fight once morest AIDS.
The latest results show that the HIV-AIDS prevalence rate in Gabon has fallen from 4.1% in 2012 to 3.6%. This prevalence is twice as high among women (4.7%) as among men (2.3%).
