Trisakti University’s Criminal Law Expert, Abdul Fickar Hadjar, stated that the seven convicts in the murder case of Vina Dewi Arsita or Vina Cirebon and Muhammad Rizky alias Eky have the potential to be released from prison.

This might happen if there is new evidence other than Aep’s false statement and the pretrial ruling regarding Pegi Setiawan.

“If the report is supported by other evidence besides Aep’s false report and the pretrial decision, then it is possible that the life sentence can be changed, there is even a possibility of release,” said Abdul Fickar, Sunday (14/6).

The seven convicts have reported two witnesses, Aep and Dede, on charges of giving false statements to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit. In addition, they also plan to file a judicial review (PK).

Abdul Fickar said that PK is a legal step taken to free oneself from a life sentence.

“However, it is not certain that the PK will be granted. The police must work hard to uncover who the real perpetrator is,” added Abdul Fickar.

Aep and Dede were reported by the seven convicts on charges of providing false information to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Indonesian National Police on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

This report was made following the Panel of Judges at the Bandung District Court decided that the determination of Pegi Setiawan as a suspect was invalid.

Aep is one of the witnesses who claimed that Pegi was at the location of Vina’s murder, but now Pegi’s suspect status has been revoked and he has been released from prison.

Aep and Dede were also accused of giving false information regarding the involvement of seven convicts. Therefore, the convicts reported them to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit in the hope of getting an acquittal like Pegi.

“Today I am making a report on behalf of the convicts as part of an effort to find other evidence. Hopefully in the future we will be questioned once more and given smoothness,” said the attorney for the seven convicts, Roely Panggabean, at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, South Jakarta, Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

The seven convicts who reported Aep and Dede Riswanto were Jaya, Supriyanto, Eka Sandi, Hadi Saputra, Eko Ramadhani, Sudirman, and Rivaldi Aditya Wardana.

This report is registered with the number: LP/B/227/VI/2024/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI, dated July 10, 2024.

The two reported suspects are suspected of committing the crime of providing false statements under oath at Class I Bandung Prison, Bandung IIA Narcotics Prison, and Cirebon City Police, West Java on September 2, 2016-November 23, 2016, in accordance with Article 242 of the Criminal Code. (Z-10)
