Tour 2024: Richard Carapaz among the greats after stage victory

Richard Carapaz joins a very special list following his stage win in the Tour de France. The Ecuadorian is only the eighth rider in cycling history to have worn the leader’s jersey, won a stage and finished on the podium in all three Grand Tours.

Jacques Anquetil was the first rider to achieve this great feat. Later, Eddy Merckx, Felice Gimondi, Bernard Hinault, Chris Froome, Vincenzo Nibali and Primoz Roglic would follow. Roglic was the last to complete this statistic in 2020, when he rode in yellow for a long time in the Tour de France.

Earlier in this Tour de France, Carapaz was included in a list of eleven riders who had both finished on the podium in all three Grand Tours and worn the leader’s jersey. Miguel Indurain, Cadel Evans and Alberto Contador were the other riders in this list besides the aforementioned names.
