Gresini Racing rider Marc Marquez, who is currently in third place in the standings, remains realistic regarding competing for the 2024 MotoGP world championship title.
Marquez, who is 56 points behind leader Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati Lenovo, said his rival had shown steady improvement in performance in the last four races.
“Bagnaia has improved in the last few races and raised his level. Meanwhile, (Jorge) Martin almost managed to get close to him, and I stopped a little bit,” said Marquez on the MotoGP website, Thursday (11/7).
The eight-time world champion is not in a rush to claim the crown this season, despite those around him saying Marquez has a good chance.
“People told me that I was close (to winning the title), but, we have to see the reality. The reality is how I can compete closely in the main races,” said Marquez.
“There are always two riders who are consistently faster and finish in front. Many things can happen, but I still don’t see myself in the fight for the championship,” he continued.

However, the Spanish rider has the aim of finishing in the top three in every race, but does not deny that this target is quite difficult to achieve.
“Right now, I see Pecco (Bagnaia) stronger; he has mental stability and results. He got the right momentum in some races,” said Marquez.
Marquez, who will race alongside Bagnaia next season at the factory Ducati team, said he was ready to take on a new challenge in 2025.
“I think Bagnaia has accepted the decision that we will be teammates next season. I will face it as a challenge, because they put the rider with the most world titles on the grid with the same bike,” explained Marquez.
MotoGP has entered the summer break. The second half of MotoGP continues in early August at the Silverstone Circuit, England. (Ant/Z-1)
