The new MG HS debuted during the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed. Not on the track, but at a special exhibition. The Chinese brand with British roots showed there that a cheap SUV does not have to have conservative styling. As expected, the new HS draws on a car already offered in China by SAIC Motor – the Roewe RX5, a distant relative of the British Rover. What else do we know regarding it?
The new MG HS is a 180-degree turn. The aggressive styling borrowed from the third generation Roewe RX5 completely changed the character of the car. The attractive body has a chance to attract customers to showrooms who have not previously considered buying this SUV due to its too conservative appearance.

Designed with European customers in mind, the MG HS differs from its Chinese sibling in details – the grille, diffuser, spoiler and door handles have been designed differently.. For now, we can only see the interior in one photo, but the Polish representative office of the brand assures that following opening the doors we will not be disappointed. This will be ensured, among other things, by the rich equipment (two 12.3-inch screens, an inductive charger, an 8-speaker audio system, a 360-degree camera, and a set of MG Pilot ADAS driving assistants).
New MG HS. Engines and prices in Poland
The second generation of the HS will be offered in Poland with two drive systems. Customers will be able to choose between a combustion engine and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.5 Turbo engine generating 275 Nm and 169 hp. It can be ordered with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT.

The PHEV also uses a 1.5-litre engine (142 HP), but is also supported by an electric motor with 209 HP. The Chinese SUV in this version needs only 6.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h – a result that is in line with the bolder styling. The 24.7-kWh battery installed in the system is supposed to allow for a range of up to 121 km on electricity alone.
Both variants will arrive in Poland at the same time. In Great Britain, the basic combustion MG HS is priced at 24,995 pounds (that’s a little over 126,000 PLN), and the hybrid – at 31,495 pounds (less than 160,000 PLN). If the Chinese don’t overdo it with the Polish price list, the new MG HS will have the makings of a bestseller.
