PSL 9 Qualifiers: Sultans in Final, Zalmi’s Last Chance

Multan Sultans Beating Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets without any trouble on Thursday Pakistan Super League (PSL) reached the final of nine.

In the Qualifier played in Karachi, Zalmi scored 146 runs for the loss of seven wickets while batting first, which the Sultans got nine balls before.

Zalmi’s aggressive opener Saeem Ayub might not get going today and was caught out for just one run in the first over.

Zalmi The second loss came in the form of wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris in the sixth over, who was dismissed for 22 runs off 14 balls.

At the total score of 57, Haseebullah Khan (three runs) also left with captain Babar Azam at the other end.

Meanwhile, Babar had once once more scored a responsible 46 runs when he was bowled by English bowler Chris Jordan in the 14th over.

As Zalmi’s wickets fell frequently, he did not look in a position to score big on any occasion.

Zalmi’s team managed to score 146 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Among the bowlers of Sultans, Jordan and Osama Mir took two wickets each, while David Willey, Muhammad Ali and Abbas Afridi took one wicket each.

Chasing 147 runs, Sultans’ openers Yasir Khan and captain-wicket-keeper Muhammad Rizwan cautiously took the score to 35 runs without loss in the first five overs.

Both the batsmen, especially Yasir, started playing some aggressive shots in the next three overs when Rizwan (15 runs) was caught out by Aamir Jamal in the eighth over.

Yasir at the other end continued his responsible innings and scored a half-century but was caught out in the 11th over for a total score of 84.

He scored 54 runs off 37 balls with the help of seven fours and one six. Iftikhar’s short aggressive not out innings in the final overs also played a vital role in Sultans’ victory.

He scored 22 runs in eight overs to ensure the team’s entry into the finals. Zalmi’s bowling line did not give a special performance.

The eliminator will be played between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators on Friday. The winner of this match will play Zalmi on Saturday.
