The centrist from the late Liot group has announced a candidacy based on the defence of Parliament and institutions, hoping to rally to his cause a left that will have difficulty finding a majority.

It is now official: Charles de Courson is indeed a candidate for the presidency of the Assembly. In a statement that Chez Pol consulted on Monday, July 15, the centrist defends his transpartisan position and his candidacy in the name of respect for Parliament and its functioning. He is therefore entering a race in which the outgoing Macronist Yaël Braun-Pivet is already launched, while waiting for other possible candidates, particularly on the left.

“It is essential that the President of the Assembly not be at the service of partisan coalitions, sometimes contradictory and driven by the sole objective of distributing positions among themselves,” writes the man who has the greatest longevity among all current deputies.
