Since it was built for the 4th Asian Games in 1962, GBK has not only functioned as a sports facility, but also as a center for recreation, socio-cultural, political, and ecological for the city of Jakarta. Head of the GBK Marketing and Sales Division, Sri Lestari Puji Astuti, revealed that in 2023, the use of the GBK Stadium will be dominated by sports activities with a proportion reaching 42.82%; concerts contribute 16%, other categories such as exhibitions, state, education, and religion have a smaller proportion.
Entering the first half of 2024, the proportion of use for sports increased to 43.46% indicating that sports are a more routine activity compared to concerts which tend to take place sporadically. “The public is showing greater interest in sports events,” he said.
As a government-owned sports facility, GBK is indeed prioritized for sports activities. National teams from various sports, including soccer, aquatics, hockey, and tennis, routinely train at GBK. Although concerts often receive media attention, sports activities dominate the use of the facility. (Z-2)
