Earlier this week, a still-in-development version of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was leaked, the sequel to the game originally released in 2011, which will arrive on September 9 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
According to users the Redditthe developer version was uploaded to a torrent site in late June. The said version is claimed to be fully playable from start to finish and even has multiplayer features enabled for playing with friends.
As expected, several users uploaded spoiler videos of the opening missions to YouTube, and many of those videos have already been removed at the time of writing.
The reasons why the version of the game still in development was leaked are currently unknown.
Space Marine 2 developers have spoken out regarding it
A day following what happened, Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment published a statement through Xregretting what happened.
“We are deeply touched by the overwhelming support we have received from our community following the leak of an old build of our upcoming game, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.”
“Our teams have invested years of hard work, passion and dedication into creating a game worthy of your hopes and expectations, and it’s disheartening that so many of the surprises we worked to keep secret were ruined.”
“We are saddened that this version, which will be almost a year old when we release the game, is the way some of our most enthusiastic fans will first experience Space Marine 2.”
“Our unwavering commitment has been to deliver the best possible game to our players,” they continued. “This was the driving force behind our decision to dedicate more time to development and ensure we deliver the best possible experience.”
“We ask everyone to avoid this unfinished version and not spoil the game for those eager to experience it for the first time at launch. Space Marine 2 is launching on September 9th and the best way to support our teams’ hard work is to play the game as they always intended.”
