The Municipal Summer Theater of Patras on the evening of Monday July 15 proved to be “small” to accommodate the hundreds of theater lovers who packed it to watch “Hamlet”, William Shakespeare’s masterpiece, directed by Themis Moumoulidis, the which was hosted by the Patras International Festival.
Guided by the magnificent translation of Giorgos Heimonas, the performance highlighted the “collapse” of a world incapable of obeying rules and ethics. A dark, ruthless world, where friendship and blood relations mean nothing. A “ready-made” world of expediency and selfishness.
Themis Moumoulidis, attempted and succeeded through the performance in a modern stage reading of the play with a group of important actors, led by Anastasis Roilos in the role of Hamlet.
The public witnessed a monumental work that for centuries now has created its own mythology. A dive into the essence of man and at the same time a requiem to his dark side. Through Hamlet, Shakespeare describes his time, which is also our time. A text beyond time and deeply political.
The performance was attended by the vice-mayor of culture Apostolis Angelis, municipal and district councilors and presidents of organizations.
