SEVEN convicts in the murder case of Vina Dewi Arsita alias Vina Cirebon, 16, and Muhammad Rizky alias Eky, 16, will immediately file a judicial review (PK) to the Supreme Court (MA). This is allegedly done to seek freedom from life sentences.

Their attorney, Roely Pangabean, revealed this plan on Sunday (14/7).

Before filing a PK, the seven convicts had reported witnesses Aep and Dede to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit on suspicion of providing false information regarding a murder case in Cirebon, West Java.

Roely Pangabean hopes that this report will change the legal understanding of the case.

“We hope that this will change the judge’s view in the PK, that the criminal incident did not occur, and ultimately free the convict from the prosecutor’s demands. That is our hope,” said Roely.

Roely also stated that they would bring a lot of evidence in the PK, including evidence that the investigation and inquiry did not use the scientific crime investigation (SCI) method in its entirety.

“During the investigation, no DNA, blood or other tests were carried out,” he added.

Even though this case has entered a final decision, politician Dedi Mulyadi, who accompanied the legal team, emphasized that PK efforts are still possible to test the essence, substance, and truth of the law.

“What we are fighting for is essential, substantial law and true truth, and the space for that is still open through PK,” said Dedi at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Dedi is convinced that the seven convicts are innocent and he is determined to ensure that they are given justice.

“I will not let the state punish innocent people,” he stressed.

Dedi also emphasized that the families of the seven convicts would not demand compensation if they were successful in their PK efforts, because all they wanted was freedom for the convicts.

Jutek Bongso, another attorney, added that they would include the pardon process given to the seven convicts in 2019 in the PK memory. According to him, the convicts were asked to sign a guilty plea form, which they refused.

“The seven convicts never admitted their guilt. This is the assistance we provide, and that is why their pardon was rejected,” he explained. (Z-10)
