Nationwide strike of flour mills against tax implementation, fear of flour shortage – Pakistan

Flour mills started a nationwide strike from Thursday once morest the imposition of 5 percent withholding tax.

According to a Tribune report, Pakistan Four Mills Association (PFMA) Chairman Aamir Abdullah said that the government has imposed an unjustified withholding tax on flour mills from July 1, 2024 in the budget.

He added that we are already in the tax net and the mills are not in a position to bear more tax burden.

Flour Mills tried to contact the concerned government officers and authorities from July 3 before starting the strike but to no avail.

Aamir Abdullah said that we have started a nationwide strike for an indefinite period from Thursday until our demands are approved.

He added that a total of 2,000 including 250 flour mills in Sindh have completely shut down their operations once morest the implementation of withholding tax, the delivery of flour and wheat products across the country has stopped.
