THE Barista Champ 2024 competition held at the Talent Corner of the Vocational and Productivity Training Center (BPVP) continues. The competition, which pits baristas’ coffee-making skills, was initiated by the Aneuk Muda Aceh Unggul Hebat (AMANAH) community by presenting several judges directly from the Indonesian Coffee Association (ASKI).
Participants go through the interview and hard skills stages. They compete for the top 12 positions that will take part in the Barista Champ 2024 coaching clinic. In the interview session, participants are tested on their knowledge of raw materials, coffee equipment, interaction skills, experience and commitment to the Barista Champ program held by Amanah. In addition, baristas will go through a hard skills test stage which includes technical aspects of making coffee, using machines, area cleanliness and workflow in presenting coffee products to the judges.
Teuku Ghufran Wafi as a judge in the Aceh Barista Champ 2024 event explained the reason for holding this event. According to him, the potential of Aceh coffee is very large, to the point of being known internationally. He said the great name of Aceh coffee needs to be followed by the expertise of baristas in serving the best coffee.
“It is actually very important for baristas to participate in competitions like this to upgrade their skills, from current industry developments, so they can adapt, that’s why we create local competitions like ASKI and Amanah do,” said Teuku Ghufran Wafi, explaining.
One of the participants of the 2024 Aceh Barista Champ, Nauval Azmi (25), expressed his appreciation and hope that AMANAH might hold even bigger competition events in Aceh, considering that Acehnese coffee is already world famous.
“Incidentally and fortunately I come from Central Aceh, where the best coffee comes from Central Aceh, and more interestingly now coffee is not just a drink, but this year coffee has become an object of science and some people make coffee a drink trend, Aceh is famous for its slogan of the city of 1000 coffee shops, where with this event it becomes a field for Acehnese children to learn and compete. Hopefully events like this will continue in the future and if possible the biggest coffee event in the world will be held in Aceh and organized by AMANAH.” He concluded. (Z-8)
