Bernie Sanders sides with Joe Biden. In an op-ed signed for the New York Times, the newspaper where George Clooney has recently launched a new wave of calls for the President to abandon the race for a new term, the left-wing Democratic senator writes of his intention to “do everything possible to ensure that the President is re-elected.”
“Despite my disagreements with him on particular issues — his support for Israel, above all — Biden has been the most effective president in our country’s modern history and is the strongest candidate to defeat Donald Trump, a demagogue and a pathological liar,” the Vermont senator wrote. “It’s time to learn a lesson from the centrist and progressive forces in France who, despite their deep political differences, have come together to decisively defeat right-wing extremism.” “For two weeks, the corporate media has been obsessively focused on the June debate and the cognitive abilities of a man who has, perhaps, the most stressful job in the world, and unfortunately, too many Democrats have joined this firing squad,” Sanders said.
It’s one thing to have gaffes regarding names, but it’s another to have been convicted of 34 criminal offenses and face other charges that might lead to dozens more convictions. Biden has a record of positive results, starting with the fact that his America Rescue Plan has restarted the country following the pandemic, Sanders stressed, calling on the President to instead launch a bold agenda to address the needs of the majority of Americans who have been left behind for too long.
