The FBI has confirmed the identity of Donald Trump’s attacker as Thomas Matthew Crooks. The investigation is still ongoing and it is not clear whether the 20-year-old acted as a “lone wolf” or had accomplices. The FBI then denied that Trump’s team had asked for increased security measures for the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The investigation will have to clarify how an attacker armed with an automatic rifle might have approached within 150 meters of the former president and was able to shoot from above, positioned on the roof of a manufacturing company. Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, is identified in the state’s voter registration as a Republican. The attacker used an Ar15, the model of semi-automatic rifle most used in the United States, including in mass shootings that have occurred in the country. “My name is Thomas Matthew Crooks. I hate Republicans, I hate Donald Trump,” Crooks said in a video message on social media. The FBI reiterated, however, as has already emerged previously, that the 20-year-old was registered as a Republican voter.
