Thiruvananthapuram: UDF MPs told Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that they will unite to protect the national interest. A meeting of MPs convened by the chief minister also decided to file a joint petition demanding correct provision of the state’s share.
The Chief Minister informed the MPs that steps will be taken to complete central schemes and utilize funds within a time-bound manner. After a long break, the Chief Minister directly called a meeting of the MPs. After the meeting decided to file a joint complaint to the central government to get the state’s share, the UDF MPs assured the chief minister that they will protect the national interest at all times.
At the meeting, UDF MPs said they should work together on developments beyond politics. The chief minister assured the MPs that necessary steps will be taken to complete central projects on time. The chief minister sought cooperation from MPs to streamline development activities in the state.
The chief minister said that following the new government came to power at the Centre, it had sent two letters to the finance minister raising various demands. The state’s finance minister also raised the state’s demands in a face-to-face meeting with the federal finance minister. The central government’s allocations and subsidies to the state have been reduced. In this case, the main requirement is approval of a special scheme of Rs 24,000 crore. The finance minister also mentioned that state funding for many projects was not sanctioned in the name of the brand. The chief minister also told the meeting that a Rs 5,000-crore fund package has been requested for the Vizhinjam International Port project.
