A 19-year-old – a new driver and probably driving at excessive speed – lost control of the car he was driving on Laxenburger Strasse at 8:30 a.m. following turning left from Troststrasse. He left the road and collided with two pedestrians who were on the sidewalk, the state police headquarters reported.
The two seriously injured are a 43-year-old woman and her 47-year-old husband. They suffered broken bones and were only partially responsive, said police spokeswoman Julia Schick. Both were given emergency medical treatment by the Vienna Rescue Service and taken to hospital.
The 19-year-old driver and his passenger, who is the same age, were slightly injured in the accident and were also hospitalized. The 19-year-old was not under the influence of alcohol. The clarification of the exact circumstances of the accident is the subject of ongoing investigations.
