Computer tool implemented to reduce processing time for maquila exports

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Industry and Commerce, in collaboration with the Executive Secretariat of the National Council of the Export Maquila Industry, presented a computer tool that modernizes and streamlines maquila export procedures.

By implementing the new Maquila export request automatic processing module, the wait is reduced from 24 hours to a maximum of 75 seconds, available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, at no cost.

The module was developed in cooperation with the T-Fast project, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), for trade facilitation through which all the procedures of the Maquila regime are carried out.

The system will receive the export request from the maquiladora company and will automatically search for matches between what is enabled in the system for export and the attached export invoice.

The head of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, said that the reduction in time is another step taken by the Government of Paraguay to simplify procedures and provide competitiveness to the industry, especially in an important sector for Paraguay, which is the Maquila.

He stressed that this sector generates annual exports of over 1 billion dollars, in addition to generating more than 26,000 jobs.

In turn, the Vice Minister of Industry, Lorena Méndez, stressed that what is being done manually, such as verification, is being done with artificial intelligence to recognize components, imports, products, exports and online traceability to generate security for the system.

Computerization is a milestone for the maquila

He said that this launch marks a milestone for the maquila system with the computerization and integration into the VUE platform. He added that this tool will reduce time, cost and provide security to transactions through artificial intelligence and progress towards a completely online process, eliminating the need for physical documents.

Likewise, the Executive Secretary of CNIME, Natalia Cáceres, stressed that with the launch of this automatic processing module for exports under the maquila regime, a commitment made to the maquila sector is being fulfilled, to establish administrative mechanisms that can streamline their procedures. She stressed that it will have a positive impact on competitiveness and increase in exports.

This meant that these technological innovations have been implemented for some time by the Executive Secretariat and have had a positive impact on the management of maquiladora companies.

He expressed his conviction that the way to reduce bureaucracy is by incorporating more technology into state management, and that is what the Ministry of Industry and Commerce is aiming for, and we believe that this is an important achievement in the effort to modernize our management, he said.

In turn, Carina Daher and then Tatiana Mursa, representatives of the private sector, praised the effort to leave behind the paperwork that slowed down exports, to move towards automation and de-bureaucratization of procedures. They asked to continue listening and proposing solutions for the maquila sector.

Advantages of the new module

The new module offers multiple benefits for maquila companies, including efficiency and agility; continuous authorizations, rapid processing of large volumes of documents and elimination of manual tasks, freeing up public officials for other operations.

Likewise, precision and quality through the minimization of human errors, automatic extraction of reliable information and data for analysis and decision-making; cost reduction with the optimization of human and financial resources, without additional costs for the State.

It also enables transparency and traceability with detailed records for greater transparency and accountability and boosts competitiveness by improving export management times, allowing companies to increase their sales and presence in the international market.

The maquila sector became an essential pillar for industrial and economic growth.

Among the foreign trade procedures linked to the operation of the regime, the Maquila Export Request stands out for its relevance, requiring speed and efficiency on the part of the State, so streamlining this process is crucial to boost Paraguay’s competitiveness in international markets.

The event was attended by the Head of the Office of the Vice Ministry of Commerce, Luis Elías, and T-Fast Executives.
