“Thank you Venezuela for so many displays of solidarity, support and affection, as well as rejection and repudiation of the crimes committed once morest the people of Palestine,” said Fadi Alzaben, ambassador of Palestine in Venezuela, when delivering a recognition sent by the president of that nation Mamud Abbas to Minister Freddy Ñañez, within the framework of the 18th World Poetry Festival.
During his intervention, Alzaben pointed out that the war in Palestine did not begin on October 7, 2023. “We have been in constant war for 76 years, what Israel is doing in Palestine is ethnic cleansing, genocide. Israel has turned the Gaza Strip into a children’s cemetery. In 9 months Israel has killed 16 thousand children, 11 thousand 500 women, 100 thousand wounded. “It has completely destroyed the Gaza Strip,” he stressed.
The diplomatic representative of Palestine warned that they have been without water, fuel, and medicine supplies in the attacked area for 9 months.
“I want to take advantage of this space – he said – to thank President Nicolás Maduro Moros for having been one of the presidents, one of the first líderis of the world to break the blockade and send humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine to the Gaza Strip to alleviate the suffering of our people,” Alzaben added.
Decoration of Mahmoud Abbas
During the poetic event where tribute was paid to Palestine, Freddy Ñáñez, Sectoral Vice President of Communication, Culture and Tourism, received a decoration sent by the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas.
“I, Mahmoud Abbas, president of the State of Palestine, president of the Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, have decided to award the great Venezuelan poet and artist, Mr. Freddy Ñañez, the decoration of Culture, Science and the Arts, Radiance level. “Poet, for his artistic contribution and important role in supporting the Palestinian cause and for his contribution to the presence of Palestine in Latin America and the world,” says the recognition signed by Abbas.
Ñañez: freedom is necessary
For his part, Ñañez specified following receiving the recognition that we should not be content with asking for a ceasefire in the area, but rather demand the freedom of the Palestinian people.
“We have to face the situation with truly radical and possible solutions, then we have to ask for the end of Zionist colonialism over Palestine and the absolute freedom of the people and the Palestinian State (…) we do not have more time, because the more time passes, the more Palestinian blood was spilled. If Palestine dies, the soul of the West and therefore the soul and conscience of the people will die,” he indicated.
He added, in that sense, that poets are at the forefront of a battle for sensitivity and conscience.
“No matter how much Zionist propaganda wants to give nuances and wants to stigmatize what is really happening in Palestine, this battle for sensitivity will have to be fought from spirituality, from art and from conscience,” he emphasized.
For Nañez, the recognition received weighs a lot and he receives it on behalf of an infinite community of poets from all over the planet, while it also falls on the shoulders of the Venezuelan people, “who have been forged in the great ideals of resistance.” once morest imperialisms.”
