It is a historic meeting of the two legends of the world music scene in Athens. They will be accompanied by the soprano Christina Poulitsi, while the ERT Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Yordi Bernaser.
The two tenors yesterday expressed their great joy and emotion to be once once more in Greece, which they love, and emphasized that they will offer a magical evening: “I am happy to be in your country once once more, such a beautiful place , with a very beautiful sea, the Mediterranean, which of course is mine, since I come from Barcelona. I have a wonderful musical company, Platido and all the contributors. We have prepared a program that the Athenian public will really like”, said Jose Carreras. He emphasized that he has been coming to Greece for forty years and that he has amazing memories from “this wonderful country, with its important culture”.
For his part, Platido Domingo pointed out that he enjoyed the concert he gave a few days ago in Halkidiki, together with Christina Poulitsi, while he underlined his very good feelings from his appearance last summer at the Toplou Monastery, in Crete. “We want the evening at Kallimarmaro to be unforgettable for everyone. It will be great to sing in a place as special as the historic Kallimarmaro,” enthused the international tenor, noting how amazing the Greek audience is.
Christina Poulitsi, for her part, noted that the Kallimarmaro Stadium is emblematic and that for Greek artists it is very important to appear next to such important performers of international prestige and indeed in such venues.
Speaking regarding their program, they noted that it is structured with timeless arias and duets from some of the most beloved operas of all time, and will also include “jewels” from the musical theater repertoire, Broadway’s greatest hits, and of the Spanish and Neapolitan tradition.
The two tenors referred to the history they wrote in the 90s, but also in the early 2000s, when they performed as “Three Tenors” with Luciano Pavarotti by their side, bringing the magic of classical music to the general public. In fact, they shared their common memories with Placido, but also their emotion when Pavarotti passed away and they might not sing together. Their signature performances that left an era, bringing together different people of all ages, ethnicities and classes, were the 1990 and 1994 FIFA World Cup football finals.
Tonight at Kallimarmaro is expected to make history, with the two giants of opera putting Athens on the map with concerts of worldwide interest.
It should be noted that José Carreras, a tenor with a special interpretative range, confirms once once more his love for Greece, choosing to include it in a tour of historical importance, which will hardly be repeated.
For his part, Platido Domingo, known worldwide for his unparalleled talent and commanding presence, continues to fascinate with his performances, enriching each performance with a magical mixture of passion and drama.
FOR KALLAS AND BALTSA
They spoke highly of Maria Callas, noting that she was the greatest performer of all time, the greatest diva of opera: “Everybody agrees with that. He had a great personality on stage, dramatic dimension, intensity, passion.” Speaking regarding Agni Baltsa, they pointed out her brilliant, “electric” stage presence. “We are lucky to have sung with her many times and we hope she will repeat herself in the future,” they emphasized.
