Haris Doukas attacks Costas Bakoyannis and other government officials who accuse him of his decision to run for PASOK leadership as mayor of Athens, asking Harilaou Trikoupis to take a clear position and denounce the “unacceptable methods” .
“Too many have left the ND, such as the press representative, Mr. Marinakis. Mr. Voridis, Mr. Pleuris, Mr. Velopoulos came out and they say that I cannot be a candidate. Mr. Bakoyiannis keeps coming out, just like yesterday. He’s obsessed with me. He probably wants me to give him powers to become Mayor. But elections have been held. Yesterday, it was the third Municipal Council that we discussed for five hours, the previous time for six hours and Mr. Bakoyiannis instead of telling us his proposals for Athens and its functioning, he said whether I will have time or not for the city,” he said on Parapolitika 90.1 FM, Mr. Doukas asserted that: “Athens is changing completely and everyone can see it. We don’t just break abscesses, we don’t just make institutional interventions, such as for the heights of buildings, the metro where they have to deliver the squares faster and not be sheet metal everywhere, over-tourism and the revenues that the Municipalities don’t receive”.
According to the candidate for the leadership of PASOK, “the story with the party’s constitution and whether it exists for him is incompatible… He reminds that George Kaminis was also Mayor when he stood as a candidate for president of the Movement for Change, but there had not been, as he says, all this conversation which is taking place with him today. “I think the effort I am making is disturbing”, he asserts and tries to explain that: “I cannot, as the mayor of Athens, say that the government does not believe in decentralization, does not believe in accountability, talks regarding modernization which is unfair and weak, and sit in my eggs and to just wait like a beggar for some minister to give me money”. What is he doing; “I have 26 municipal councilors to whom I have given a voice, a role and a separate portfolio. They are people who share the same passion as me. We gather every morning and go out into the streets. And that’s why you see the anxiety we have to move things forward quickly, in the time of “now”. We have already made some institutional interventions: We have created the Office for Combating Energy Poverty and we are sharing know-how with other municipalities, the Athenian Energy Alliance, we are putting photovoltaics in schools – we have already put in 3 – we are proceeding with total renovations in many more in the summer season to enter the children in September”, he notes, while in the same interview he emphasizes that his opinion is that PASOK should move clearly in a logic of changing the production model which should become more fair, socially and economically.
“I’m making a big call. To all democratic and progressive citizens, let PASOK once once more become the soul of the democratic faction that will unite the space to form a clear, governing perspective”, emphasizes Haris Doukas. In response to a question regarding Anna Diamantopoulou’s eventual descent into PASOK, he underlined that: “Diamantopoulou’s candidacy is welcome. As are all the strains, which have a history, with races, with different routes and with other views. All this is wealth, all this process. That’s why I submitted to the competent committee the axes on how we should proceed. In fact, I also put in a code of ethics, so that we can be sure that we will make the best use of the wealth of ideas. There should be an equality in order to make this explosion of opinions, the political restart for overcoming”.
Regarding the scenarios regarding the center-left and the question of whether he will meet with Mr. Kasselakis, he tries to cut off any discussion by saying: “Fermentations do not take place with leaders in closed offices, they take place down at the base.”
