The information meeting implemented by the Citizen’s Advocate in Tripoli, with the aim of raising citizens’ awareness of issues related to solid waste management, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Mainalon Resort, Areos Square, had a great response and participation. The issue of solid waste is a key issue for Tripoli and the wider region and has strongly concerned the local community.
The event was honored with their presence by the Mayor of Tripoli, Mr. Kostas Tzioumis, the Deputy Regional Governor of Peloponnese, Mr. Christos Lambropoulos, who welcomed the event, the Deputy Regional Governor for Energy, Environment and Circular Economy, Mr. Anastasios Adamopoulos, as well as officials of the Directorates Environment and Spatial Planning of the Regions of Peloponnese and Western Greece, the Vice President of the Waste Management and Collection Agency, Mr. Ioannis Smyrniotis et al.
During the meeting, the operating framework and the role of the Citizen’s Advocate in the matter of solid waste management were presented by the Assistant Citizen’s Advocate at the Quality of Life Circle, Ms. Dafni Filippakis, while the Special Scientists Ms. Antonina Papathanasoglou and Angeliki Bosdogianni focused on the problems identified by the Authority and on more specific cases. The coordination of the information meeting was undertaken by the Special Scientist Mrs. Eugenia Papadopoulou. Discussion and exchange of views followed.
The meeting is one of the actions of the act “Actions of the Ombudsman to strengthen good governance, accountability and fight once morest maladministration in the public sector”. The operation is co-financed under the Good Governance, Institutions, Transparency Program of the EEA Grants (EEA Financial Mechanism) which represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway to a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.
