Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France Insourmise and the most solid cornerstone of the New Popular Front that emerged from the legislative elections with the highest number of seats. Strengthening the reformist ventricle is an arduous path for the willing Raphael Glucksmann, who nevertheless had the merit of giving oxygen to the socialist tradition. The locomotive of the left-wing convoy is manned by that radical leader who as such has no shadowy spaces in his identity. It is all absolutely clear: anti-Israeli, similar to the regimes of this era such as China and Venezuela. It matters little to put on TV, in comparison with the very young Attal and Bardella, the less impactful Bompard in the phase preceding the first round. He, Mélenchon, will appear on stage the evening of the count, with pro-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan at his side. Quick to take center stage, just as he did following the run-offs.

The policemen who dared to carry out an inspection at the headquarters of La France Insourmise in 2018 know something regarding it, and found themselves faced with an enraged Mélenchon who told them anything. With a subtext: «La France c’est moi» France is me. And he got suspended from the Grand Orient of France.
However, Mélenchon is someone who knows a lot. Of socialist origin (he was minister delegated by the head of government Lionel Jospin), he broke in 2008, the year of the great crisis. However, those who imagine a Melanchon alienated in the empyrean of pure idealism are wrong. Of course, his endorsement of Luigi De Magistris’s formation on the occasion of the Italian political elections in 2022 did not help him. He was coming off an excellent placing in the first round of the French presidential elections, where he had come third behind Marine Le Pen, a result that had strengthened his attention in public opinion abroad. However, he knows how to get into the logic of a political contest that moves a lot on the level of image. The presence of Rima Hassan behind him on the evening of the first round is, in fact, a demonstration of this. As is the challenge to the impossibility of being ubiquitous, using a hologram in rallies that allows him to be “present” in several places at the same time. And then there are his forays into video game fairs, which he seems to be passionate regarding. And which allow him to align himself with the younger generations. Because in the end, on the left, the mechanism always works the same way: anti-capitalist moralism is fine until it touches on something we like. In that case, just press the pause button.
