Iga æwi±tek got a lesson. Her mistakes were pointed out. “She lost herself” Tennis

– I let her come back into the game in the second set. I shouldn’t have done that. I also made some mistakes. But she certainly took advantage of her chance – said Iga Świątek (1. WTA) following losing 6:3, 1:6, 2:6 to Yulia Putintseva (35. WTA) in the third round of Wimbledon. It was a sensational defeat for the Polish tennis player, which shows that she still has a lot to improve in her clay court game. Out of five starts in London, she only advanced to at least the fourth round twice. The furthest she reached was the quarterfinals last year.

The coming days, and maybe even weeks, will be dominated by opinions and analyses regarding what Iga æwi±tek lacks on grass courts to finally win Wimbledon. After all, the Pole has already won Grand Slam tournaments on hard courts (US Open in 2022) and clay courts (Roland Garros 2020, 2022-2024).

Iga Świątek suffered a similar defeat at Wimbledon as last year? Tatiana Golovin has no doubts

Tatiana Golovin shared her perspective on Iga Świątek’s defeat by Yulia Putintseva on Bein Sports. The former French tennis player of Russian origin recalled last year’s defeat by Elina Svitolina (21st WTA) in the quarterfinals 5:7, 7:6, 2:6.

– Even when Świątek won the first set, we might see that she was tense. Putintseva managed to make her doubt – assessed the former 12th-ranked WTA tennis player. – Once once more, I have the impression that when the situation starts to get too complicated, Świątek is unable to control her emotions and loses confidence in her choices. She lost herself mentally once more and it was a defeat similar to last year’s – emphasized Golovin, quoted by the portal welovetennis.fr.

After Wimbledon, Iga æwi±tek will have a short break to rest. After that, she will play at the Olympic Games in Paris. This tournament will be played on the courts of Roland Garros from July 27 to August 4.
