Donald Trump is flirting with the idea of a third presidential term in clear violation of the US Constitution, which only provides for two terms.
During a speech in Dallas, Texas, where he secured the support of the gun lobby (NRA-National Rifle Association) by promising to roll back measures adopted by Gov. Biden for limiting gun ownership, o Trump he threw out the idea of a third term.
“You know, FT R [Φράνκλιν Ντελάνο Ρούζβελτ] he was 16 years – almost 16 – president, for four terms. I don’t know, will we have three terms? Or two terms? I don’t know, you tell me,” the former president and Republican presidential candidate said as some in the audience chanted, “Three!”
According to iefimerida, as reported by the British newspaper The Guardian, Trump had raised the issue of a third term in the past, including during his 2020 election campaign. Last month, however, he told Time magazine that he did not seek such a thing.
The 22nd amendment to the Constitution of USAwhich took effect following Roosevelt’s fourth term, limits presidential terms to two.
