Indonesian national swimming team coach Albert C. Susanto said that two of Indonesia’s leading swimmers, Joe Aditya W Kurniawan and Azzahra Permatahani, are currently undergoing strategic consolidation to face the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“Currently, they (Joe and Azzahra) are entering the consolidation stage of their competition strategy. So we are doing a lot of race pace,” said Albert while overseeing the athletes’ training at the Aquatic Stadium, Gelora Bung Karno Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/7).

He said this was related to the preparation of Indonesian aquatic athletes for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In addition to race pace, he said, the two athletes also underwent a combination of heavy and light training this week.

“Next week, it’s the race pace strategy that we prioritize,” he added.

Albert explained that Joe had been specifically projected for the Olympics so that he was targeted to break the national record at the world’s highest sporting competition in Paris.

During the two-month training camp in the United States (US), Joe also showed quite good improvements in his times.

Meanwhile, Azzahra was previously projected to prepare for the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON).

However, because Azzhara was also suddenly selected from World Aquatics to appear at the Olympics, she had to undergo quite drastic training.

“So there are indeed changes that are quite risky for the Olympics because we have to be realistic, the target of winning is quite difficult,” he said.

Joe and Azzahra were declared qualified to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics through the universality place quota. The qualification of the two athletes adds to the list of Indonesian athletes who qualified for Paris to 29 athletes. (Ant/Z-1)
