Are you traveling to Cuba in July? Find out about the current Customs measures 2024-07-11 03:57:01

Are you traveling to Cuba this month? Then this information is of interest to you.

As of July 1, 2024, various measures adopted by Cuban Customs and the Ministry of Finance and Prices came into force.

One of the most notable regulations is the ratification by the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba on the exceptional and temporary measure for non-commercial imports made by natural persons, by luggage, or by air, sea and postal shipments. These regulations will be in force until September 30, 2024.

Among the most important provisions for passengers is Resolution 94 of 2024 of the Ministry of Finance and Prices, which allows duty-free entry and without limits on the quantity of food, toiletries and medicines, as part of luggage.

In addition, it increases the limit on the customs value for imports of this type by way of passengers as unaccompanied baggage, raising it from $200 (or 20 kg) to $500 (or 50 kg).

What luggage do I not have to pay for in Cuba?

It is important to know that luggage for Cuba has an annual limit of up to 125 kg or 1000 dollars in imports. If you exceed this amount, you will have to pay additional fees.

If the luggage consists only of food, toiletries, medicines and medical supplies, travelers can go through the green channel without paying anything to Cuban Customs.

Personal effects such as a personal laptop, mobile phone (or tablet) and up to 5kg of miscellaneous items (clothes, shoes, etc.) are also exempt from duty, allowing a total of up to 30kg free of charge.

Therefore, in general, those travelling to Cuba will not have to pay for hand luggage (up to 10 kg) and a large suitcase (up to 20 kg) in the hold. There will also be no charge for packages with food, medicines or toiletries, provided that these are separated from the miscellaneous items.
