Shooting in Afghanistan, four people, including three foreigners, killed: officials

Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry said on Friday that four people, including three foreigners, were killed in a shooting in Bamyan province, a popular tourist destination.

According to the news agency AFP, the spokesman of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, Abdul Matin Qani, confirmed the incident and said that four foreigners and three Afghans were also injured in the shooting.

He said that ‘foreigners came here for tourism.’

However, he did not give information regarding the nationality of the foreigners.

According to preliminary information provided by hospital sources, the three foreigners who died were citizens of Spain.

While the injured were from Norway, Australia, Lithuania and Spain.

Diplomatic sources said they were trying to confirm information, including the identity of the dead.

Qani said that the security forces have arrested four people in connection with the attack. He did not say if there were multiple shooters.

Qani said in a statement that the Taliban government “strongly condemns this crime, conveying its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims, who have heard the sound of gunshots, and security on the city roads leading to the site.” The forces immediately stopped.’

Bamiyan is considered to be the cradle of the Giant Buddhas and is the largest tourist destination in Afghanistan.
