Erdogan reveals the most important points of the agenda of the NATO summit in Washington before leaving Ankara airport

Erdogan’s most prominent statements came during a press conference he held at the capital Ankara Airport, before his departure to Washington to participate in the NATO leaders’ summit, during which he revealed the most important points on the agenda of the alliance leaders:

• We have declared from day one that there will be no losers in a just peace. To this end, we have assumed responsibility from the beginning to ensure a ceasefire, especially during the Istanbul negotiations process, and then pave the way for lasting peace.
• We will put on the agenda the ongoing massacres once morest the Palestinian people in Gaza, where our shared values ​​are being tested. In the face of this dire situation, the institutions of the international community are not enough to stop Israel, and the world conscience must breathe a sigh of relief before a just and lasting peace is established in Palestine.
• When the threats are diverse, the importance we attach to NATO is clear.
• We will hold consultations at the summit to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence architecture and enhance the means and capabilities of the Allies.
• Our summit is of special significance because it coincides with the 75th anniversary of NATO, and we will follow up on the decisions we took at the NATO Leaders Summit in Vilnius last year.
• We will meet at leadership level with NATO partners in the Asia-Pacific region, Australia, South Korea, Japan and New Zealand, with representatives of the European Union participating in a session.
• We expect to reach outcomes that take into account the national security sensitivities of the Allies, strengthen the spirit of solidarity and unity in the Alliance, and implement the decisions of the Vilnius Summit on “counter-terrorism” and the ceasefire.
• Removing barriers to defense industry trade between allies is important, and we will engage with our immediate surroundings and the world in a resolute and comprehensive fight once morest “terrorist organizations.”
• Turkey’s commitment and support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence is known to all and while taking steps to support Ukraine, we also maintain our principled position of not making NATO a party to the war.
• The consultations to be held in Washington will make significant contributions to defining NATO’s new vision for the southern region.
• The cyber world, combating misinformation, and the challenges posed by emerging technologies will also be on our agenda during the summit.

The Turkish president concluded his remarks by saying: “There is an important issue, which is: Are we in the situation we want with NATO at this stage? I say this frankly and honestly, we are currently trying to overcome these problems.”

He added: “We have not yet gotten what we wanted and expected from the alliance, especially with regard to NATO and the Israeli-Palestinian file.”

Erdogan expressed his hope that “these issues will be put on the agenda once more in our meetings in the United States, and we will get the result we expect.”
