“Real truths, the life of Estela de Carlotto”, is the title of the emblematic and award-winning Valladolid – Seminci Festival (Official Selection of the competition), film that will be screened at 9.30 pm on Tuesday 9 July in the atrium of the new Town Hall for the section of the Municipal Mobile Cinema.

Nicolás Gil Lavedra tells through the cinematographic lens the life of the human rights activist, president of the “Grandmothers of the Square of May” in Argentina.

The film is dedicated to the missing persons of the dictatorship in Argentina and their children. It refers to the military coup that replaced the country’s constitutional government. It also describes the policies of terrorism and violation of human rights that they implemented every day, while within a few years thousands of citizens, mainly dissidents, of different ages and social classes mysteriously disappeared, while others were murdered.

Among the victims of the regime were young women, young children and unborn babies. Women who were pregnant during their arrest gave birth in prisons and their babies following they were kidnapped were given for adoption to soldiers and people friendly to the regime.

Estella was a middle-class lady who divided her time between her family and her job as a school principal and lived completely removed from any political activity. However, following the kidnapping and murder of her daughter, Laura, between 1977 and 1978, and the disappearance of her grandson Guido, who was being held by his captors, her life changed completely.
