Bloomberg Philanthropies announced Monday that it has donated $1 billion to Johns Hopkins University to provide tuition-free education for medical students.

In this regard, he said that starting this fall, medical students whose families earn less than $300,000 a year will not have to pay tuition.

He added that living expenses and fees will be covered for students whose families earn up to $175,000.

Bloomberg Philanthropies said nearly two-thirds of medical students at Johns Hopkins currently qualify for the assistance.

The donation will also increase financial assistance for students in the school of nursing, public health and other graduate schools.

“By reducing financial barriers to these essential areas, we can enable more students to pursue the careers they are most passionate regarding, and empower them to serve the families and communities that need them most,” Michael Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies, said in a statement Monday.

Bloomberg Philanthropies donated $1.8 billion to Johns Hopkins in 2018 to ensure that undergraduate students were accepted regardless of family income.
