High temperatures with strong winds are expected on Wednesday (10.7.2024), once once more creating an explosive combination for her occurrence of fires.
According to the fire forecast map issued for tomorrow by the general secretariat of Civil Protection, the risk of fire is particularly high and is classified as category 4 for almost half of Greece. It is noted that from today the temperatures will be on the rise for at least the next ten days.
Specifically, the 16 regions of the country that are on orange alert are the following:
Boeotia, Evia, Corinthia, Argolis and Laconia
Fthiotida, Phocis, Achaia, Ilia, Arcadia and Messinia
Lesvos, Chios and Psara
Authorities advise citizens to be cautious
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection has informed the competent government agencies involved, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above regions, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to face any fire incidents immediately.
At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection recommends that citizens be especially careful and avoid actions in the open air that can cause a fire by negligence, such as burning dry grass and branches or cleaning residues, the use of machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, welding devices , the use of outdoor grills, the smoking of bees, the throwing of lit cigarettes, etc. Also, it is reminded that during the fire protection season burning of fields is prohibited.
In the event of a fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at the number 199.
