From TODAY Wingo applies visa application to Cubans. Colombian government remains silent 2024-07-09 19:30:34

Starting TODAY, July 8, the Colombian airline Wingo will apply, as it had already announced, a visa request policy for Cubans who wish to board its flights to Colombia. The Colombian government has still not made anything official in this regard.

Can an airline impose visa applications on its own for Cuban nationals? That has to be a government matter. No, but why is the official communication from the Colombian government not published where this new requirement is required, which has left hundreds of Cubans stranded, who were looking to make a connection in that country and continue on to Nicaragua?

To date, no official website of the Colombian government says anything regarding Cubans needing a transit visa, although they do need a tourist visa to enter Colombia for a short stay, and Wingo “takes advantage” of this to require Cubans to have a visa. Since they do not fly connecting flights, only from origin to destination, Cubans should know that they would need a visa to enter Colombia.

Wingo regretted that passengers who purchased tickets on the island cannot fly due to the new visa requirement. The airline clarified that the requirements for international travelers in Colombia are established by the country’s immigration authorities, and not by the airline.

But where is this official communication published, stating that it has been applied since the 8th and before today?

Wingo requires visas for Cubans from TODAY

As of today, July 8, 2024, Cuban passengers traveling to Nicaragua via Wingo airline must present a regular tourist visa, according to the company, which apologized for this inconvenience, clarifying that it was not imposed by them, but by the immigration authorities of the South American country.

“Because Wingo operates only point-to-point and does not have connectionstravelers of Cuban nationality must present a visitor visa when boarding your flight. This document must be issued by the Colombian consulate in Cuba,” he explained.

What else will Wingo require? In addition to a visa to Colombia, passengers must show a confirmed return ticket issued by Wingo when boarding the plane.
