The Office of Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the extension of the validity of Employment Authorization Documents (EAD) issued to beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from El Salvador, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan until March 9, 2025.

The EAD, popularly known as a work permit, is a document issued by the USCIS that provides temporary employment authorization to non-citizens in the United States.

The extension applies to those who currently have TPS under these designations and have not yet re-registered for the extended period. They are required to file Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, during the current re-registration period to maintain their TPS benefits. Re-registration periods vary by country, but all EADs have been extended through March 9, 2025.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had previously extended re-registration deadlines to allow individuals to file their TPS applications on time: El Salvador until March 9, 2025, Honduras until July 5, 2025, Nepal until June 24, 2025, Nicaragua until July 5, 2025, and Sudan until April 19, 2025. Details on how to re-register are available in the Federal Register notice extending TPS for each respective country.
