Informed sources revealed that 18 Moroccans detained in Myanmar camps were released in the past few days.

According to the same sources, six of the freed prisoners paid the ransoms weeks ago, while the rest, 12 people, were freed with the intervention of the army, international organizations, and the Moroccan embassy in Thailand.

In response to this issue, the Committee of Families of Victims of Human Trafficking in Myanmar expressed its highest expressions of thanks and gratitude to King Mohammed VI, may God protect him, “for the special attention and paternal affection His Majesty has given to the file of those concerned, by giving his orders and lofty directives to the various intervening services to carry out their national duty towards Moroccan citizens who were victims of international human trafficking.”

In addition, the committee, in a statement, thanked the services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad and the security authorities. It also highly praised the efforts of international organizations supporting the victims’ file, and thanked them for the noble efforts they made to free those concerned.

On the other hand, the same committee appreciated “the steadfastness of the Moroccan youth in the detention camp despite the torture, physical and psychological violence, starvation, poor health care and ill-treatment they were subjected to, and their insistence on following the procedure for victims of human trafficking.”

In the same document, the committee called on the Moroccan state to provide health and psychological care to the victims who are currently in Morocco, as well as those who have been freed and will soon return to their homeland, and to present them to medical and legal experts.

In addition, the committee called for investigating the victims’ files and families’ complaints and providing justice to the victims who were the cause of their deception and selling them into the human trafficking market.
